On Tuesday, August 11, 2026, peacefully at Allen Bryant Ultimate Care, Hokitika, aged 83 years. Loved husband of Helene, respected Dad of Helen, Adrian, Heidi, Andrew, and Hannah, loved Opa of his 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, loved father-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend. A service to celebrate Stanley’s life will be held in the All Saints Anglican Church, 57 Bealey Street, Hokitika, on Friday, August 14, at 1pm. Following the service, Stanley will be laid to rest in the Lawn Section of the Hokitika Cemetery.

Sorry to read this. Stan was my tutor at polytechnic for several years. Such a lovely gentleman. Thinking of all his family.
I have many fond memories of Uncle Stan from my younger years. As the only grandchild in my mother’s family at the time, I was fortunate to spend a great deal of time around him. Although he was my uncle, he was the same age as my father and, in many ways, became a mentor to me during some very formative years of my life.
Uncle Stan took the time to include me in the things he was doing. He let me help him work on cars, included me in home improvement projects at my grandparents’ house, and helped me get my first job at a local machine shop in Florida. At the time, I’m not sure I fully appreciated how much those experiences were teaching me—not just about working with my hands, but about responsibility, confidence, and the satisfaction that comes from learning how to do something for yourself.
After he and Aunt Helene moved to New Zealand, distance and life meant that we didn’t stay in touch as much as I wish we had. But time and distance did not diminish the impact he had on me. Looking back, I realize just how fortunate I was to have Uncle Stan take an interest in me when I was young and to share his time, knowledge, and experience with me.
I will always be grateful for those years, and for the part he played in shaping the person I became. Rest in peace, Uncle Stan. You made a difference in my life, and you will be remembered with great affection.

My deepest condolences to the Kahl family and particularly Andrew and Adrian whom I have the pleasure of knowing personally. I worked with Stan at the Polytech and found him to be a quietly spoken knowledgeable gentleman who never had a bad word to say about anyone. I know the whole family will be missing this patriarch deeply. RIP Stan
