Ellen Phyllis McMurtrie

On October 11, 2022, at Te Nikau Grey Hospital, aged 79 years.  Dearly love wife of the late John, much loved mother and mother-in-law of Sally and Max Bateup, (Rangiora), Jane and Chris Veale, (Hokitika), Christopher and Jacquie (Leithfield).  Loved Granny of Hannah and Jason, Sarah and Ross, Daniel and Mishalla, Dylan, Ellen and Dylan, Samantha and Andy; and Jahn.  Loved great-granny of Leo, Mya, Ari, Pippa, Marlee and William.  Loved sister and sister-in-law of Stuart and Ann McHugh, Lynette and Peter Nelson, Janet Wilson, Adair and Mac Oates (deceased), Rob (deceased) and Barbara McMurtrie.  A loved aunt of all her nieces and nephews.  Messages to 5 Howat Place Hokitika 7810 or can be left on Ellen’s tribute page, www.thompsonfd.co.nz.

A service to celebrate Ellen’s life will be held at the Chapel of the Holy Spirit, Seaview Terrace, Hokitika, on Friday October 14 at 10.00am.  Following the service Ellen will be laid to rest with her husband John in the Lawn Section of the Hokitika Cemetery.

    I was so very saddened to read of the passing of dear Ellen when I returned from Australia, and was sadly unable to attend her funeral, I shall miss our nearly daily wave’s, smiles and often chats as she would welcome Harry (my dog) who she adored and myself into her home, I shall remember her with fondness memories RIP dear Ellen, such a special lady
