My deepest sympathy to the Knight family, Mr Knight as I knew him, was my first teacher in Whataroa when I started school in 1957, he boarded at the Whataroa pub and had a motorbike if my memory is right! RIP

Denis will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was a regular over a 13 year period at the weekly Enliven group at our place; always keen to share something from his bag of treasures, whether photographs, news items, his father’s thesis on the history of Hokitika, moa bones, stories from his book- there was always something to share. He was a gentle presence and we remember him fondly.

Hi Roger and Linda.Thank you for your kind message,Dad loved the group
at your house. I recall on one occasion, he couldn’t get a lift to your place, and insisted
I take him in the car.I assured him I would. He was really worried he’d miss out on making
it to the group that particular week.I could see how much being in the group meant to him.
On another occasion Dad came home from your group. He walked up the driveway as I was washing the car.
He said “Hi Andrew” he seemed really happy.Being part of your group meant an awful lot to him
n his later years. Thank you both so much for having him.Andrew

My sincere sympathy to you all. I had the pleasure of working with Dennis at Blackball School. and met his lovely wife Adrienne several times too. He was an absolute gem. A kind, patient man, passionate about teaching and sharing his interests and skills. I treasure the book ‘For the Record’, that he wrote. I am so sorry we lost touch and that I did not visit him at Granger House.
