Barry Ashley Wilson J.P.

February 28, 2023

On the 28th February 2023, at home with his family.  Aged 76 years.  Loved and cherished husband of Judy, much loved father and father in law of Anthony and Kathleen, Gene and Kirsty, a loved and adored Pop of Jessica, Braden, Aston and Seth and great-grandpop of Max, Heath and Lincoln.  Loved brother of Russell and Loraine (both deceased), Naomi and his step-brother, Clive.  A much loved uncle, cousin and friend to many.  Messages to the Wilson Family, 32 Bonar Drive, Hokitika 7810 or may be left on Barry’s tribute page at www.thompsonfd.co.nz.

Flowers respectfully declined but donations to Ranui House would be appreciated and may be made at the service.

A service to celebrate Barry’s life will be held at the Seaview Hall, Seaview Terrace, Hokitika, on Saturday March 4, commencing at 1.30pm.  Following the service Barry will be laid to rest in the Lawn Section of the Hokitika Cemetery.

    Such a proud man with a fastidious eye for detail. Always, always, always kept his home, grounds and things in perfect condition.

    Once, when looking for an upholsterer, a recommendation was made, but I wasn’t convinced. Eventually, said upholsterer mentioned they had done quite a lot of work for Barry Wilson – immediately I booked the job in!

    I had a great regard for Barry, both within the community, and especially the involvement we had with the Hokitika Cycling Club.
    Many a Tuesday ride with Barry keeping an eye on all of us in the packs, ensuring nobody taking it easy, then sprinting out from about the Motor Camp corner !
    He made his views on this known.

We remember Barry telling us he kept an eye out for our young daughter in her first job, when she had to open up by herself in the early hours of the morning along behind the glass studio, and that he was always there if she needed help. It gave us and her peace of mind. RIP Barry.

    I have Always enjoy coming home from Australia and catching up with Barry for a chat in the street or at hokitika Glass.
    You’re all very lucky to have had such a wonderful human being in your lives.
