Neil and I hold precious memories of visiting Dot for the first time in 2016 after discovering our family connections and history.
We will treasure our three visits to Hokitika staying with Dot and meeting our new found cousins and their families.
We loved listening to Dot’s stories of her past and found her to be a kind and gentile lady.
Humble, gracious, practical, and with a depth of unspoken strength. She frequently shared that little side grin as she spoke, which etched into a bigger robust smile before laughter made her eyes twinkle too. Memories of her West Coast hospitality …. because, in her words, “that’s what we West Coasters do” will stay with us forever, as will images of her immaculate house and garden, aromas of home cooking and her delicious white bait fritters!!!!
Holding all of these wonderful memories close to our hearts, and knowing we will miss you terribly Aunty Dot, we also know you are with your beloved Jack again and that’s where your heart has wanted to be for quite some time.
We send our love and condolences to immediate family knowing Dot is resting in love and now resting in peace.
Jan & Neil Canton, – niece of Aunty Dot
