Ross Peter Levett

April 17, 2025

Passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 17, 2025. Dearly loved husband for over 45 years of Hetty, cherished Dad of Miranda, and Nat, father-in-law of Kev, and Cam, adored ‘Cracker’ of Mariette, Rosie, Tyler, Luella, and Freddie, loved son of the late Bill and Pat, much loved brother and brother-in-law of Robyn and Richard, Lynley and Ken, Chris and Tania., much-loved in-law of Hetty’s family, loved uncle, cousin and friend. Ross always lived his life to the full. Despite many years of serious health issues, he battled on courageously, mostly with a keen sense of humour and a vivid story to tell, Ross was devoted to his family (and pets) and always had time for his mates. Brave to the end, at rest now: Revelation 21.4. Messages can be left on Ross’ tribute page at www.thompsonfd.co.nz. As per the family’s wishes, a private burial has been held. A farewell for Ross will be held in the Kokatahi Hall, on Saturday, May 10, commencing at 2pm, family and friends are warmly invited to come and share our memories and hear about some of Ross’ adventures.

Sad news. Ross was a great person, a true sales person with kindness and knowledge. Ross was the only agent my late Mum would deal with. I remember every Christmas Ross would call in to see my Mum with a beautiful pottery bowl full of chocolates. Sending love to Hetty, you’ll all miss him dearly, rest in love Ross.

So Ross will remain forever loved in my heart and my memories from those times when we were growing up will never fade. My thoughts are with Hetty . I felt privileged to attend Ross’s memorial service on Saturday. I have many memories of growing up next door to Ross, Robyn, Lynley and Chris. Hours of fun in the sawdust heap, catching tadpoles, swimming in the freezing La Fontaine River and so many others. A fantastic place to grow up. Just glad the parents didn’t always know what we were up to!
Murray also sends his sympathy to the Levett family.

It was good to catch up with many schoolfriends at the service. The memories are so strong among all the speakers that show Ross led a very full life. He will be sorely missed by his loving family.

Being a distant cousin, geographically (and genealogically), opportunities to visit Ross were limited, but I’m glad that one such occurred in 2010 and that over the years we maintained a periodic correspondence. The many comments left on this web site reflect my own recollections of a much loved and respected man whose passing leaves an enormous void. My condolences go to Hetty and all members of the Levett family in NZ.
