Passed away peacefully at Te Nikau Grey Hospital, surrounded by his loving family on June 17, 2025, aged 85. Deeply loved dad and father-in-law of Pete Jnr & Tania, Emma & Brenden Newman, Kristy Baty, and the late Mandy, cherished Grandad and Great Grandad, loved brother and brother-in-law of Dick (deceased) & Janet, and the late John & Sylvia, and Ward, cherished friend of Gail, a respected mate of ‘Lindz’, a much loved uncle, and a friend of many. Pete was a living legend of hydroplane racing in NZ and will be hugely missed. Messages to 38 Marlborough St, Greymouth 7805. A Funeral Service to celebrate Pete’s life will be held in the William Sampson Memorial Chapel, Tainui Street on Tuesday at 11am followed by burial in the Hokitika Cemetery.

My sincere condolences to Peter, Emma and family. I have fond memories of him. I spent many hours playing with Emma at their house growing up. The door was always open and was a great Dad to his kids.
So sorry to hear that Pete has passed, I have fond memories of him shopping at Fitzy, such a lovely caring man, he will be sadly missed by many, my heart goes out to Petes family xx
