This was meant to be read on behalf of gibbo at the service but ran out of time.

Sorry I couldn’t be there for you and your family today but our oldest boy is getting married today, but will be thinking of you all.
I will never forget as a 16 year old having to help Jockey in the yards at the venison factory.
A stag needed shifting up the race so Jockey told me to f… get down into the pen and move it. I said to Jockey the stag doesn’t look very happy and he said just get down there. I climbed down and I’m pretty sure the stag could sense the fair, it got up on its hide legs and bet the living shit out of me. After the stag had finished with me Jockey climbed into the pen and rescued me. All Jockey said was sorry about that.
All the time you thought it would be funny to shock me with the prodder when I had wet arms and you kept walking along like nothing had happened.
We had a laugh and worked well together.
A few years later you asked my permission to take my mother to the pictures.
You have been in my life for many years and have been a father figure to me, you will be missed.

      RIP Jocky,

We have great memories of Jockey and Mum at the Bach at Punakiki and when they came to stay with us.
      Jockey loved cutting up firewood.
We know how much he loved his little friend Stacey right from the day we picked him up as a puppy for him.

Two weeks ago we had a long chat with you Jockey not knowing that your time was coming. As young children in Whataroa with you and your pet possum. It died and we were all so sad about it and so early the next morning we were up at dawn and out to bury it. Our Mother was out at the corner shed watching what we were about. We said we must say pray and you with tears said that you did not know how to pray and so we helped you through. I remember this well and told you about it that last day. You and Bunty were a great couple. We are unable to be at your fair well on Saturday and I want to say to all your children whom I knew of you, your family line is broken now both your parents have gone remember them with the kind couple that they were God Bless you all and RIP Jockey
