Eric George Walker Q.S.O

April 10, 2022

Died peacefully at home with his loving family on April 10 2022, after 96 remarkable and generous years. Cherished husband of the late June, loved father and father-in-law of Malcolm and Diana, Julie and Graeme, Wendy (deceased) and Ted and Annie.  Also his surviving brother Cliff and his wife Jean.  Adored and admired grandfather of Curtis, Polly, Matty, Emma, Josh, Amy, Isaac, Zoe, Serena, Poppy, their partners and his great-grandchildren. Respected, appreciated and enjoyed by his wide circle of family, friends and the West Coast and Tasman communities.  A Life well lived. Messages to 141 Jollie Street, Hokitika 7811, or can be left on Eric’s tribute page at  www.thompsonfd.co.nz A service to celebrate Eric’s life will be held at All Saints Anglican Church, corner of Stafford and Bealey Street, Hokitika, on Saturday April 16, commencing at 2.00pm.  Following the service, Eric will be laid to rest with his wife June, at the Hokitika Cemetery.

    So sorry for your loss. Mr Walker was such a community person. I have heard many stories of his rugby talent and I enjoyed many badminton seasons at the WHS gym, always run by Mr and Mrs Walker. Great friends of my parents too. Sincere sympathy to the family.

    I was very sad to hear this. Eric was a big figure in many of our lives growing up in Hokitika.
    He donated so much of his time to our sporting education. He was a fine athlete himself in his youth which you could still see in the way he walked and moved even in his latter years. He was a true gentleman. I admired him enormously and was very fond of him.
    He will be very sadly missed.
